Question to Samson Siasia: When has performing one’s civic responsibility become an act of indiscipline?

Samson Siasia, Nigeria U23 Coach

I read on Daily Sun Newspaper that the Nigeria U23 team coach Samson Siasia has released what would likely end like a big blow to the Nigeria community as a whole by dropping our own legendary footballers in Enyimba Football Club, Aba in what he termed an act of “indiscipline” just because they wanted to perform their civic responsibility to the people of Aba and Abia State as a whole.

The three players who were dropped lately include; Kingsley Sokari, Nzube Anaezemba and Daniel Etor.
After pondering over this, I began to ask myself; ‘when has one’s decision to perform his civic responsibility become an act of indiscipline? Don’t we think Samson Siasia is somehow being jealous of the performances of these football gurus? Knowing that their decision to join their team, Enyimba Football Club in a shootout with Sunshine Stars in Lagos will boost the football history of these guys, why will he not allow them since it does not violate their commitment to the National Team, U23?

Concrete report has it that the Netherlands 2005 FIFA U20 silver-winning coach, Samson Siasia who also doubles as a one-time coach of the Super Eagles said the players were sent packing after they requested to leave the camp to go for their club’s last Nigeria Premier Football League game of the season against Sunshine Stars in Lagos, even after he (Samson Siasia) had told all the players not to leave the camp.
In his statement, he said; “I feel bad in taking this decision, but discipline must be maintained for us to achieve success in Senegal. All players in camp were told not to leave camp as the team would be traveling this weekend to The Gambia for pre –Championship training, only for these three players to come and ask to be allowed to go play for their club as they wanted to be part of the victory parade. I had no option but to allow them leave and also in the process, leave them out of the team.”
Although he felt remorseful about his decision, but one thing that is predictable is that he may likely lose this match without the performances of Kingsley Sokari, Nzube Anaezemba and Daniel Etor.

However, may be you have a contrary opinion to ours… Do you thing Samson Siasia was right in his decision to exclude these football stars of Enyimba FC just because they wanted to be a part of the victory of their club? Leave your comments here on Twitter - @abaisgood .
