Assemblies of God Popular Pastor Kidnapped in Uyo, Abductors Demand N50m Ransom

The Former District Superintendent of Assemblies of God Nigeria Eket District, Rev Friday Phillip was on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at about 8:30 pm kidnapped in his home town, Oron along Ibo Street in Akwa Ibom State.

Information made available to us by eye-witnesses was that the clergyman, Rev Friday Phillip was driving from Stadium road to Ibo street to see one of his in-laws, in the company of his wife and a child when his abductors overran his car, double-crossed him and commanded that he stops.

As God may have it, the wife together with her child miraculously escaped with minor injuries while the gunmen sped off with her husband.

It was gathered that his abductors are demanding a ransom of fifty million naira (N50 million) from the Church body and family.

This is coming few weeks after the Appeal court ordered a rerun of the Akwa Ibom State governorship election. It is crystal clear that some politicians are planning to raise money by means to finance their campaign.

“Jumping out of their unidentified car, and brandishing guns, they ordered the pastor and his wife to come down from their car. The wife miraculously escaped being hurt while the gunmen sped away with the pastor,” another eyewitness narrated.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe who confirmed the incident to the Press said, “I can tell you that we are in charge; we will do what we can. We will find the man. But we won’t be able to tell you the machinery we have put in place”.

Cordelia Nwawe was very optimistic about freeing the AG Pastor. She stated that it was the effort of the Police that helped to combat crime in the State during the yuletide.

She said, “People knew that we were in charge of the situation. We were very proactive. The police commissioner was in-charge. There was no holiday for the police. We were very busy everywhere”.

The kidnap of Rev Friday Phillip is coming three weeks after the elder brother to the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Mr Uwem Umana was kidnapped too wherein the abductors made a whooping demand of N100 million and later reduced it to N30 million.
