Christmas Tragedy: Boko Haram Kills 14, Abduct 8 in Borno State

Contrary to the federal government’s claim that they had crushed the Boko Haram Islamic sect, some members of the group who stormed Kimba village in Gur ward of Biu Local Governement Area of Borno State on Christmas day, at about 8:30 pm unleashed mayhem on the people, killing about 14 and abducted 8 to an unknown destination.

The sad news came a day after the minister of information; Lai Mohammed claimed that the federal government has succeeded in keeping to her promise to Nigerians and the international body on crushing Boko Haram Islamic sect.

Based on the report available to us, this is making it the sixth attack in the area lately despite all the military presence around the area.

Kimba, which is about 22 miles away from Biu town, which is reportedly the biggest town in southern part of Borno State never believed that the group of boys who rode into their town with bicycle were members of the Boko Haram sect.

One of the eye-witnesses who narrated the story to DailyPost said,

"They burnt down our houses, killed our brothers and abducted our children.

We are close to Sabon Gari and there are military there at Sabon Gari but they could not come to our rescue. Many people have been wounded.

“They killed 14 people and injured many more people and set the whole village ablaze,” said Mohammed Aliyu, a vigilante member. According to another member of the vigilante group, Isa Biu, “The attackers rode on bicycles to invade Kimba. They had guns and they just opened fire on villagers.”

“About 17 are currently being treated in Biu.

“We have lost 14 people and they took eight with them," Umar Sani, a resident told DAILY POST on phone.

However, President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his commitment to offer amnesty to the terrorists (who according to Global Terrorism Index is the most deadly in world) if they will accept to cease fire and name their price. He said he is ready to persuade them to let peace rain.

Nigerians, speaking on social media have asked, whether it was right to negotiate with terrorists. Some other people argued if the terrorists still exist since Lai Mohammed has stated that the federal government has crushed them.
