Gunmen Kidnap Two Catholic Priests in Delta State

Report reaching our news desk from Delta State is that two Catholic Priests, Rev Fr. Franklyn Odiaka and Rev Fr. Moses Nwonwochei have been kidnapped by gunmen at Obior, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta.

According to Parishioners, Rev. Fr Franklyn Odiaka who serves God as the Parish Priest of Catholic Church, Zappa Parish, Asaba was kidnapped on Friday evening with one Nwaonwochei, another catholic priest.
The two Priests who were kidnapped by known gunmen were said to be returning from a ceremony organised in honour of the Bishop of Issele-Uku Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Michael Elue.

Reports from Nigeria Pilot Newspaper website said that although details of the kidnap were still sketchy as at the time of filing the report, many anxious parishioners of the Catholic Church were yesterday seen around the church in clusters, discussing the latest development while they equally joined hands together in prayers, calling on God to intervene in the immediate release of their Priest like He did it in the Bible during the arrest of Apostle Peter.

Effort to get more information from the Parishioners proved abortive as members of the Church were said to be preparing for a marathon prayers against the kidnap of the fiery charismatic priest, Rev Fr Franklyn Odiaka.

Most unfortunately, the kidnap of the two Priests came barely two weeks hoodlums were reported to have broken into the church and carted away an undisclosed huge amount of money from the parish treasury.

Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Celestina Kalu, while confirming the kidnap of the Catholic priests, told newsmen that information about the situation was still sketchy.

In recent days, the rate of kidnapping has increased, and this is not far from the fact that the weapons donated out by our politicians to intimidate their opponents in the last concluded election have not been recovered.

Aba, as city in Abia State is witnessing another untold blow of kidnapping. It is now almost a threat to one’s life to own a Jeep as owners of such luxury cars are the major targets in this yuletide season.

However, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu have promised Abians of maximum security in this Christmas season even as he donated some patrol vans to Police and also electrified the streets of Aba.
