Nigeria U-23 Defeats Algeria, Heads to Rio

Nigeria U-23 Players

Following the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations held today, Saturday 12th December, 2015 at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium, Dakar Senegal, which saw Algeria battle with Nigeria team, Nigeria has emerged overall win of the game with a technical knockout of 2 – 0.

Despite an own goal scored by Nigerian player, Segun Oduduwa, Oghenekaro Etebo still messed the Algerians up with two unbeatable goals to cap up the win. It was indeed a lifeline for the Algerian counterparts.

Our brilliant goalkeeper, Emmanuel Daniel frustrated every effort made by the Algerians to equalise the match. In so many occasions, Emmanuel Daniel saved Nigeria team. This includes when he stopped a penalty kick.

Having won at the continental level, Nigeria will now head to the Olympics as African Champions and will be joined by the duo of Algeria and South Africa.

The players who through the selection of Samson Siasia made this victory a reality include;
Daniel Emmanuel

 Sincere Seth
Ndifreke Effiong
Azubuike Okechukwu
Amaefule Chizoba
Oduduwa Segun
Muhammad Usman
Victor Osimhen
Tiongoli Tonbara
Oghenekaro Etebo
Junior Ajayi

Coach Samson Siasia had on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 defeated Senegal in a 1- 0 to seal its first opportunity of playing in Rio.

Coincidently, the same stadium (Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium, Dakar Senegal) where Samson Siasia in 1992 Africa Cup of Nations scored the winning goal for Nigeria against Senegal is where he has gone to win again as a coach. Record has it that it was Nigeria’s first goal in a 2 – 1 defeat of their host Senegal.

Well, what more can we say but to congratulate our boys for making us proud again.
We hope that their presidential handshake will not be like that of the Golden Eaglet that were given N20,000 each. Some sources also said that it was still denied them due to lack of money in the federal treasury.

We strongly believe that if these guys are encouraged, they will make us proud the more.
